Finca Las Terrazas “Terraces” is one of the six farms of a third generation of producers who have passion and commitment to quality coffee cultivation. In 1958, Jorge Vides, the patriarch of the family, founded Finca La Bolsa; a coffee plantation located in La Libertad, Huehuetenango.

Jorge’s passion was for health and he practiced as a full-time traveling doctor making a significant impact on the region. His passion for health led him to become Director of the National Hospital of Huehuetenango, which to this day, bears his name. the farm was his real hobby.

His humanitarian sense extended beyond coffee production. In 1980, he founded a school that still runs on the farm, which has since been named after him and authorized by Guatemala’s board of Education. After his passing in 1995 Jorge's daughter María Elena Viades and her son Renardo “Nayo” Ovalle Vides continue his legacy and created four community programs: The La Bolsa school, the La Bolsa day-care center, the Vides 58 Coffee School grant and the Qawale (“partner” in Mayan) program initiative.

Las Terrazas was purchased by Renardo Ovalle Vides in 2012, with the intention of growing different varietals. Large parts of the farm are protected areas of wild forest, much of which is used to prevent soil erosion and reduce the plants exposure to winds. This is based on a permaculture model, with the intention of sustainability and respect for the environment, to try and recreate coffee’s natural habitat in high altitude forests.
