This Year, The Cerro Azul Geisha AAA won first place at the Good Food Awards Competition. Twenty-six coffee professionals, all owners, educators, roasters and tasters, applied their expertise to judge coffees from over 2,000 entries, and this coffee was the best!
This is the second coffee we have roasted from Finca Cerró Azul to win. In 2019, our roast of the Geisha XO won the Good Food Awards and scored 95pts with Coffee Review the same year.
This coffee’s story began in the forests of Ethiopia over almost 100 years ago. It is the story of a variety that traveled across Africa, then to Central America where it was rarely planted for 30 years. It was a near-forgotten variety until 2005 when it broke the record at the time for highest auction price on a coffee ever.
Two years later, Don Rigoberto tried his hand with the variety, winning a first place prize in the “Best of Panama”. Now, 14 years later, Rigoberto utilizes his farm’s unique microclimate and a unique process for this geisha variety that we cannot wait to share with you.
The Granja La Esperanza Cerró Azul farm has earned accolades from the SCA, Roasters Guild and Coffee review for the Herrera brothers meticulous processing and experimentation with fermentation and rare coffee varieties.
