The Kotowa farm, in the hands of its third generation producer is owned by the Ricardo Koyner family. The Koyner family moved to Panama from Canada in the late 1900s and established one of the first coffee mills in Panama and it is actually still operational today. The farm is located on the Boquete mountainside of the Baru Volcano. Given the location of  where this particular coffee is grown, on the slopes of the Baru Volcano, the Geisha coffee varietal does particularly well because of the slightly drier climate.

The quality of Kotowa coffee is recognized every year as a top award winner in the Best of Panama coffee competition.

Kotowa organic coffee has 500 acres of untouched virgin rainforest as a wild life sanctuary since 2006. The National Environmental Agency presented Kotowa Coffee as the winner of The Panama National Award for "The Years Environmentally Cleanest Industry".
